Latvian-born, Brooklyn-based filmmaker, artist, writer, and animator Signe Baumane delivers a semi-autobiographical musical exploration of love, sex, romance, and gender with her animated film, My Love Affair with Marriage. The protagonist, Zelma, a young, spirited woman, is determined to conform to the pressures of the mythological Sirens in order to find love. But the more she attempts to conform, the more her body resists. This tale of inner female rebellion blends both two-dimensional and stop-motion animation to take us on a journey that displays Baumane’s willingness to be both vulnerable and self-deprecating.
