A Fortunate Man
Pittsburgh Premiere

This sweeping epic from Oscar-winning director Billie August (Pelle the Conqueror) tells the haunting tale of Peter Sidenius, an ambitious young man who leaves his devoutly Lutheran family behind in rural Denmark to study engineering in Copenhagen and change the world with his progressive ideas. His entrepreneurial mentality and self-confidence offend his professors but attract the attention of a prominent Jewish family willing to help make his dreams a reality. Based on the Nobel Prize-winning late 19th century novel Lucky Per, A Fortunate Man is a visual tour de force that captures the inner turmoil of this deeply conflicted man over the course of his lifetime. (Adult content: sex, nudity)

“It’s poignant storytelling, melancholic, refined, wry, timeless and modern…a dazzling experience.” — Jan Lumholdt, Cineuropa
