A one-time successful linen merchant, David Bermann returns to Frankfort after surviving the Holocaust and hatches a shady scheme to get back into the business and piece together his life. Bermann, however, must also face the American intelligence officer who suspects this charismatic hustler may have collaborated with the Nazis. Tempered with bittersweet humor, a superb ensemble cast, and a lively Klezmer-style score, this film offers a fresh historical perspective and an engaging salute to the Jews who chose to reclaim their lives in Germany.
