Dear Fredy
Pittsburgh Premiere

Dear Fredy tells the story of Fredy Hirsch, a German athlete who lived as an openly gay man in Prague prior to the start of World War II. Hirsch was a tireless promoter of athletics who remained active even after the Nazis began excluding Jews from sporting activities and facilities. He went on to become a beloved PE teacher and Zionist youth leader, first at Theresienstadt and finally at Auschwitz, where he used charm and charisma to establish connections with SS officers in an effort to protect the children he supervised. His extraordinary story is one of an unsung hero who always fought for the betterment of those around him.
