Baptiste, a talented imitator, cannot make a living from his art. One day, he is approached by Pierre Chozène, a famous but discreet novelist, disturbed by solicitors, socialites, and annoying and importunate people. Pierre needs calm to finish his most ambitious, most intimate text. He offers Baptiste to become his voice on the telephone, and Baptiste becomes his answering service—with complicated results.
