After being released from an Italian prison, Arthur, an English archaeological scholar with an uncanny knack for knowing just where to find hidden artifacts, reunites with a band of misfits. Together they work to extract Etruscan relics until they find a treasure beyond measure. Director Alice Rohrwacher’s La Chimera pieces together film stock and aspect ratios in an incredibly inventive film that is hard to classify. In the process, she delivers a film in which ancient history and the present become undeniably intertwined.
