After a chance encounter with a painting supposedly stolen by Nazis, Esther Stegmann, an ambitious journalist, is motivated to investigate the story of what happened to this work of art. Uncovering clues in museums, archives and cemeteries throughout Paris, she soon finds herself caught up in a web of lies, betrayal, and a concealed history that’s been buried for decades. Award-winning director François Margolin leaves no detail unturned in this smoldering dark tale, with a score that includes classical music as well as Yiddish folk songs.
