The Last Mentsch
Pittsburgh Premiere

OPENING NIGHT
Pittsburgh Premiere
A hardened old man comes to terms with his past in this whimsical and wonderfully unique film, part road trip, part buddy caper. After surviving Auschwitz, Menachem Teitelbaum (played with aplomb by German Academy Award winner Mario Adorf) becomes Marcus Schwarz, leaving behind his Jewishness so much so that now no rabbi will sell him a burial plot. With an unlikely driving companion -- a young Turkish woman with her own troubled past -- he returns to his hometown in search of anyone who can bear witness to his youth. Boasting an interesting array of characters, THE LAST MENTSCH explores the price of forgetting the past and the power in remembering it.
