The Muses of Bashevis Singer
Pittsburgh Premiere

This fascinating expose on the prolific Yiddish author is filled with personal interviews of numerous women who served as his translators since the 1960s. Singer liked to call them his “harem” and made no effort to conceal his attraction to many of them. He was a quirky little man with immense talent and libido, and the film makes it clear that without these women, his work would not be nearly as known throughout the world. The Muses of Bashevis Singer is an absorbing look at one of the most influential Jewish writers of the twentieth century, whether or not you are familiar with his work.
