In The Novice, Isabelle Fuhrman (The Orphan) stars as Alex Dall, a college freshman obsessed with making the varsity rowing team. Her laser-focus set on little else, Dall forgoes any meaningful connections with teammates, coaches, and others and endures emotional and physical pain in pursuit of her singular goal. Director Lauren Hadaway seems to be asking what drives a person to go beyond their limitations? – and to what end? With top notch technical elements and a brilliant performance by Fuhrman, this provocative film will keep you on the edge of your seat.
