Did you hear the one about the Jewish teen who organizes a hunger strike at his father’s garment factory while his mother brings in sandwiches? That’s one of many wry twists in this quirky comedy about a geeky young man in Montreal who thinks he’s the reincarnation of Leon Trotsky, the great Russian revolutionary. The rebellious Leon Bronstein (Jay Baruchel, star of “She’s Out of My League” filmed in Pittsburgh) tries to copy Trotsky’s life trajectory, even pursuing the beautiful Alexandra, who has the same name as his hero’s wife. He enlists a burned-out lawyer (Michael Murphy) to battle his school’s “fascist” administrators (the delightfully tyrannical Colm Feore and Domini Blythe), and win over the school board chairwoman (Geneviève Bujold).
