Part biopic, part performance piece, this entertaining new documentary examines the connection between two beloved cultural icons, Sholom Aleichem and Theodore Bikel. Although the two never met, Bikel became the preeminent performer of Aleichem’s work over the past century. Narrated by Alan Alda, the film includes songs, monologues and moments of reflection from Bikel, as well as interviews with Fyvush Finkel, Gilbert Gottfried, Dr. Ruth Westheimer and others who explore the remarkable lives and work of these Jewish superstars.
