At the end of the 19th Century, a homely baby girl is born on the gang plank feet away from the new world as a ship filled with immigrants docks in Buenos Aires. Shy and self-conscious growing up, Gertrudis is married off to an older, wealthy rancher. Through the uncompromising vision of a nomadic French photographer, she is able to really see herself for the first time. A unique film with visual innovations, including original Surrealist-inspired photographs and films, hand-drawn color animation and film-within-a-film sequences drawn from the characters' imaginations.
