Only weeks before the trial of Adolf Eichmann began, transcripts of recorded conversations between Eichmann and a Dutch Nazi journalist, Willem Sassen, were mysteriously handed over to the prosecutor, Gideon Hausner. The information revealed in those transcripts contradicted Eichmann’s claims during the trial that he was only a bureaucrat who carried out orders. Instead, Eichmann is found to be boasting and proud of his role in planning and executing the Final Solution. Now, six decades after the trial and execution of Eichmann, filmmaker Yariv Mozer, who tracked down the original recordings, delivers the documentary The Devil’s Confession: The Lost Eichmann Tapes which recounts how they not only helped disprove Eichmann’s claims of innocence but also reveal his viscerally disturbing antisemitism and zealous pursuit of mass murder.
