The Human Resources Manager

This quirky, funny and poignant film about a man who, through tragedy, reconnects with the best of himself was Israel’s Best Foreign Language Film entry for this year’s Oscars. A worker at a Jerusalem industrial bakery is killed by a suicide bomber, so the human resources manager must escort her body to the family in remote Eastern Europe. He winds up leading a convoy of unlikely characters across a frozen post-Soviet landscape in one mode of transport after the next. Directed by Eran Riklis (“The Lemon Tree”) and adapted from a story by Israeli novelist A. B. Yehoshua, “The Human Resources Manager” won five Israeli Ophir Awards including Best Picture.
